So far this year, SADD has sponsored three on-campus Activities: Chemical Awareness Week in January 2005, Suicide Prevention Week from March 21-24, and Prom Safety Week from May 2-6. During Chemical Awareness Week, SADD members made public announcements about data concerning teenage chemical use, made posters and put red ribbons on campus trees to remind people not to drive drunk. During Suicide Prevention Week, SADD members made announcements about data concerning teen suicide. They also sponsored an activity in the cafeteria during lunch where students signed pledges on hand-sized paper (red and white) to learn how to prevent suicide and to help friends considering suicide get help. SADD students staged a demonstration using white faces to symbolize those students lost to suicide and handed out wallet cards to students to carry to help them prevent suicide by calling hotlines. During Prom Safety Week, SADD members made posters urging prom attendees to make good decisions regarding not drinking and driving and making sure to wear seatbelts. SADD also sponsored a "crash car" exhibit in the front courtyard, on loan from Mothers Against Drunk Drivers, to illustrate the tragedy that can be caused when drinking and driving are mixed together. SADD also urged students attending prom to consider alternative activities for after prom and to spot "red flag" situations that should prompt students to leave after-prom parties safely.
