Sylvia Gerr Memorial Scholarship
Midway Chamber of Commerce/Equity Services Scholarship
Each year, the Highland Park Alumni & Friends Association is pleased to co-sponsor two scholarships.
The Sylvia Gerr Memorial Scholarship honors Sylvia Gerr, a longtime
employee at Highland Park Senior High who loved children and had two
daughters graduate from the school: Carol in 1969; Elaine in 1973.
Sylvia passed away in 1989. The scholarship honors high academic
achievement and financial need for a deserving college-bound senior. In
addition to a high GPA. Art and Elaine Ruder sponsor this scholarship
each year for deserving Highland students.
The Midway Chamber of Commerce/Equity Services Scholarship honors one
or more students from Highland Park Sr. High School or Central High
School who demonstrate need, good academic achievement and
extracurricular participation. Bruce Larson, president of Equity
Services, and the Midway Chamber jointly contribute to this effort and
work closely with your alumni association in awarding these
scholarships each year.
Your alumni association, working closely with sponsors, receive,
review, select all applicants and often present the award to the winner
each year. If you are interested in creating a memorial or other
scholarship for Highland students, we will be happy to provide the same
service and joint sponsorship.
