A passing grade in Individual & Community Health is required for graduation.

G407111 Individual & Community Health Grade 10 2 Quarters

Prerequisite: None
This required course provides students with knowledge, attitudes and skills to make health-promoting decisions.  It addresses the physical, mental, emotional, social, spiritual dimensions of health.  Good health is not a one-time decision but a series of decisions continuing throughout our lives.
 
G108011 Medical Careers Exploration  Grades 10 – 12 2 Quarters

Prerequisite: Individual and Community Health (G407111).
This course will provide students with an opportunity to evaluate career choices through informed decision- making.  Students will design their own exploration of the medical and health-related fields.  Students will be provided with first-hand information from professionals in the medical and health-related fields.  In addition, this course will provide hands-on experience involving visits to community medical and health facilities.  This exploration will also be supported through a variety of activities including library research, career assessment instruments and informational interviewing.  Students will explore two-three fields in depth applying their personal educational and career horizons.
 
Physical Education
A minimum of one Physical Education credit is required for graduation.

G400111 Physical Education 9 Grade 9 2 Quarters
Prerequisite: None
Phy Ed is an essential and basic part of the total educational program.  It contributes to the development of students through the natural medium of physical activity and recognizes the physical, mental, emotional, and social characteristics of students.  The P.E. program provides a variety of motor experiences to help students develop the skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary to maintain health and function in society.
 
G400301 Physical Education Lifestyles Grades 10 – 12 1 Quarter

Prerequisite: Passing grade in Physical Education 9.
This is a new type of Phy Ed class! This fun course includes various types of physical activity. Students learn healthy eating habits and tips about weight control, and focusing on young women’s healthy lifestyle issues.
 
G400201 Advanced Physical Education Grades 10 – 12 1 Quarter
Prerequisite: Passing grade in Physical Education 9.
This course meets the standards of motivated students in developing advanced skills, knowledge and expertise in a variety of activities with emphasis on weight training programs. Written work is part of the course.
 
G403111 Gymnastics Grades 10 – 12 1 Quarter
Prerequisite: Passing grade in Physical Education 9.
This course introduces basic skills in a variety of gymnastics activities including tumbling, balance beam, vault, floor exercise, and uneven bars.  Students learn how to create floor and beam routines, and etiquette.
 
G403201 Tennis Grades 10 – 12 1 Quarter

Prerequisite: Passing grade in Physical Education 9.
Tennis is for students with some tennis experience who would like to improve their game.  Emphasis will be placed on doubles play and improving individual fundamentals.  Students will review rules, etiquette, serving, strokes, baseline and net play.  Students should have a basic understanding of the game, and enjoy tennis.  Newcomers are also welcome.  It is recommended that you have a tennis racquet for this course.
 
G402201 Volleyball Grades 10 – 12 1 Quarter

Prerequisite: Passing grade in Physical Education 9.
This course introduces skills of competitive volleyball.  Emphasis is placed on improving individual fundamentals (serving, serve receive, passing, digging and hitting).  Students will also have a chance to review the rules and strategies of volleyball.
 
G403301 Badminton Grades 10 – 12 1 Quarter

Prerequisite: Passing grade in Physical Education 9.
This course is designed for students with some badminton experience who would like to improve their game. Emphasis will be placed on doubles play and improved individual fundamentals. Students have an opportunity to review rules, etiquette, serving, general strokes, and net play.
 
G406011 Lifeguarding Grades 10 – 12 1 Quarter

Prerequisite: Passing grade in Physical Education 9.
This course is designed to develop student lifeguards.  Students will receive certification in Lifeguarding, Standard First-Aid and CPR.  They will also receive instruction in the areas of cooperative learning and water safety supervision.  All certifications are Red Cross approved.  
 
G403011 Individual Team Sports Grades 10 – 12 1 Quarter
Prerequisite: Passing grade in Physical Education 9.
This course is designed for students who want to be active and develop their skills in team sports.  Students will have an opportunity to master rules pertaining to each team sport as well as demonstrate their skills.
