F405111 Infant-Toddler Child Development Grades 9 – 12 2 Quarters

Prerequisite: None
Students will examine the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual growth and development of babies from prenatal to toddlers.  Students will explore ways to guide a child’s behavior and handle parenting responsibilities with a focus on being a teen parent. Career opportunities in the field will be explored.  This course, along with Preschool Child Dev., earning a B or better can earn college credit.   
 
F405151 Preschool Child Development Grades 9 – 12 2 Quarters

Prerequisite: None
Students will examine physical, emotional, social, and intellectual growth and development of young children, three to five years old. Using this knowledge and doing observation students will plan and supervise learning activities with preschoolers. Career opportunities working with children will be explored.  This course, along with Infant-Toddler Development, earning a B or better can earn college credit.

Clothing Tech
 
F403111 Clothing Technology I Grades 9 – 12 2 Quarters

Prerequisite: None
This class will explore basic fabric construction.  Students will explore hand and machine clothing construction skills necessary to meet personal clothing needs, demonstrate safe use of equipment and methods of clothing care and maintenance, select, purchase and construct projects by reading and applying technical instructions found in patterns.  
 
F403121 Clothing Technology II / F403511 Fashion Design Grades 9 – 12 2 Quarters
Prerequisite: Clothing Technology I (F403111) or teacher recommendation  
In this course students will build upon their clothing construction skills by selecting commercial patterns that include more challenging design details, working with new materials/equipment and creating their own
fashions.  Topics include: appliqué, photo transfer, quilting,  art of creation, elements/principles of design as well as function/purpose to design garments.  After using a technical program to create a pattern, or altering a commercial pattern, students will construct a garment applying skills/ techniques learned.
 
Food Tech


F402111 Food Tech I Grades 9 – 12 2 Quarters

Prerequisite: None
Food Technology is an introductory course that allows students the opportunity to develop work place and family life skills in nutrition and wellness, food preparation and kitchen management, using technical reading skills and laboratory experience through preparation of foods.  Taking this class with Food Tech II and earning a B or better can earn college credit.   
 
F402121 Food Tech II Grades 9 – 12 2 Quarters
Prerequisite: Food Tech I (F402111)
Food Tech II expands a student’s culinary skills by preparing more advanced food items, and evaluating society trends to create new food products.  Students gain occupational training such as team building, management techniques, and other employability skills that will benefit students in any career. Career opportunities in the field will be explored. Students have the option to earn college credit.   
 
F402501 International Cuisine (offered every other year, next in 09-10) Grades 10 – 12 1 Quarter
Prerequisite: Food Technology I ( F402111)
This advanced course explores the world of food through a study of food and culture with hands on experience.  The students will experience a variety of foods and preparation techniques from around the world.  Looking at food and food habits is a way to explore cultural diversity.
 
F402601 Nutrition & Fitness (offered every other year, next in 08-09) Grades 10 – 12 1 Quarter
Prerequisite: Food Technology I ( F402111)
In this course, students will gain an understanding of the importance of nutrition and fitness in their everyday life.  They will examine the food choices they make, facts about foods, nutrients, food safety, making smart choices as a consumer and the importance of physical activity.  Students will integrate knowledge, skills and practices required for careers in food sciences, dietetics, and nutrition.  Students earning a B or better can earn college credit.

F407111 Housing Design & Technology  Grades 9 – 12 2 Quarters

Prerequisite: None
Students will analyze the personal needs and the environment in planning and decorating living spaces, demonstrate the process of choosing where to live, and understand consumer rights/responsibilities as they relate to housing.  Students will apply elements and principles of design to creating interiors that are pleasing to the eye as well as meet an individual’s needs.  Students earning a B or better can earn college credit.
 
F406201 Independent Living/Personal Finance Grades 10 – 12 2 Quarters

Prerequisite: None
This course is for those planning to live on their own.  From organizational skills for budgeting or efficient time management, to financing and owning a car, this course will help students make wise consumer decisions. We explore money, housing, jobs/careers and other areas of student interest.
 
F406151 Relationships (offered every other year, next in 08-09) Grades 10 – 12 1 Quarter
Prerequisite: None
This course explores individual development in interpersonal communications; helping students to learn about themselves and their relationships with peers, family members, and co-workers. Students will learn about setting goals, developing esteem, communicating effectively, handling stress and crisis in families, friendships, and dating partners.  Social problems that affect relationships will be examined.
 
F404111 Hospitality & Tourism Marketing (offered next in 09-10) Grades 10 – 12 1 Quarter

Prerequisite: None
This course is designed to give students an opportunity to study/develop business skills.  Curriculum with hands- on learning opportunities affords students the ability to handle evolving concepts and techniques used in the careers in the hospitality, tourism, and restaurant and service management fields.  Hospitality management curriculum covers the basics of management, computing, accounting, marketing, food service, personnel management and ProStart program training.  Students earning a B or better can earn college credit.
