P402411 Beginning Band Grades 9 – 12 2 Quarters
Prerequisite:  A desire to learn to play a band instrument
Music and instrument fundamentals will be taught.  Students will have the opportunity to borrow a school band instrument to explore his or her musical talent with parental permission and required responsibility.  Students will be required to provide their own supplies such as a method book, reeds, and oil, drum sticks, etc.  The goal of this class is to prepare for the concert band.
 
P402431 Intermediate Band Grades 9 – 12 4 Quarters

Prerequisite: At least one year of band experience on instrument of choice
Students will study fundamentals of music in a sit down Concert Band setting.  They will prepare a solo piece and perform in both Pep and marching events outside of class as well as the Winter Concert.
 
P432471 Advanced Band Grades 9 – 12 4 Quarters

Prerequisite: Schedule audition with teacher
This is the most advanced level performing ensemble.  Students will practice and perform symphonic music written for band.  A study of rudiments, style, harmony, marching and history of music will also be incorporated into the class.  Students will be required to participate in after school performances and practices, such as parades, concerts, pep band performances and sectionals.  Students have the possibility of earning a weighted honors point for this class if they complete an application with the instructor and satisfy all the requirements.  Information regarding this process will be presented in the class.
 
P402171 Mixed Choir  Grades 9 – 12 2 Quarters
Prerequisite: A desire to sing in a choral setting.
This is an exploratory course for students with little or no singing experience.  Music fundamentals will be taught through sight-reading, ear training and vocal technique.
 
P402191 Concert Choir Grades 10 – 12 4 Quarters

Prerequisite: Teacher recommendation
This is a performance-based course that will study sight-reading, ear training, and vocal techniques as students singing in a traditional choral setting.  Student participation is required at school concerts and other community events. Students have the possibility of earning a weighted honors point for this class if they complete an application with the instructor and satisfy all the requirements.  Information regarding this process will be presented in the class.
 
P402151 Women’s Chorus (offered each trimester) Grades 9 – 12 2 Quarters
Prerequisite: A desire to sing
This group course will sing 2 and 3 part music.  Fundamentals taught through sight reading & vocal techniques.
 
P402211 Beginning Orchestra Grades 9 – 12 2 Quarters

Prerequisite: An interest in learning a string instrument
This is an exploratory course for students who have no previous music training.  Fundamentals of music and string playing are taught.  Students may borrow a school string instrument with parental permission and required responsibility.
 
P402231 Advanced Orchestra Grades 9 – 12 4 Quarters
Prerequisite: Prerequisite:  Teacher recommendation, audition & Orchestra, Beg (P402211)
Students will play a variety of music and participate at school and community events.  Attendance is required at school concerts and other community events.  Fundamentals and advanced playing techniques are stressed.  This course may be repeated.  Responsible students may borrow a string instrument with parental permission.  Students have the possibility of earning a weighted honors point for this class if they complete an application with the instructor and satisfy all the requirements. Information regarding this process will be presented in the class.

P403312 Beginning Percussion Grades 9 – 12 1 Quarter

Prerequisite: An interest in learning a percussion instrument
This is an exploratory course for students who have no previous music training.  Fundamentals of music and percussion playing are taught.  Students may borrow a school drum pad or other percussions instrument with parental permission and required responsibility. Drum sticks will need to be purchased.
 
P403251 Beginning Piano Grades 9 – 12 1 Quarter

Prerequisite: None
Beginning or advanced piano student who works at his or her own level.  Weekly assignments and a performance recital, or preferably under 15.  Keyboards are provided.

P401411 History of American Music Grades 9 – 12 1 Quarter
Prerequisite: None
Students will examine, listen or to, interpret and evaluate works of American music using knowledge of different styles and ethnic origin of music and their impact on American styles.
 
P410022 World Music Survey Grades 9 – 12 1 Quarter

Prerequisite: None
Students will explore the basics of music, listen to, evaluate, and perform music from non-western music traditions.  
 
P431701 Music Theory IB Prep Grades 10 – 12 1 Quarter

Prerequisite: None
Students will explore the building blocks of music.  They will arrange and compose their own pieces as well as develop an advanced knowledge of music fundamentals.  They will also be exposed to music history.  This course is designed for students who are interested in IB music, but are not currently enrolled in other ensembles (for example: band, orchestra, choir). 
 
P471711 Music IB Grades 11 – 12 4 Quarters

Prerequisite: 1 Year of performing ensemble or Music Theory IB Prep (P431701)
This is an advanced music curriculum band on International standards.  Students will prepare pieces, compose, and learn about music history.
