A bit about the Aims of this course:
The aims of the Diploma Programme geography course are to enable students to: Develop
1) a global perspective and a sense of world interdependence 2) an
understanding of the interrelationship between people, place and the
environment 3) a concern for the quality of the environment, and an
understanding of the need to plan and manage for present and future
generations 4) an appreciation for the relevance of geography in
analyzing contemporary world issues and to recognize the need for
social justice.
Internal Assessment
Each student must produce "coursework" which includes 1 fieldwork assignment (1,500 word limit and you WILL BE PENALIZED by The
IB examiners if it is OVER !) with maps, diagrams, tables, graphs,
statistical analysis and other supplementary information which are NOT
included in the word limit. This requires hypothesis formulation, data
collection and analysis. Fieldwork also involves primary research.
The fieldwork investigation is designed to be clearly hypothesis
based. FIELDWORK is submitted for the internal assessment.
External Assessment
Paper
1 (1-1/2 hours) 40% -THREE structured questions -you choose TWO to
answer- regarding the CORE THEME ( which you will know in your sleep is
: POPULATION, RESOURCES, and DEVELOPMENT !!!!
Paper 2 (1-1/2
hours) 40% - ELEVEN (choice of essay or structured) questions OPTIONAL
THEMES ( A, B, C themes)- You choose TWO to answer.
Internal Assessment 20% Coursework with 1 written reports
The exam date for 2009 is May 19th & 20th
