The purpose of the Highland Park Thespian Society is to provide a wide range of theatrical opportunities to the students of Highland Park. In support of this purpose the Highland Park Thespian Society produces plays accessible to all members of the school community, enabling students to be involved in every aspect of theatrical production including: acting, directing, set building, costuming, lighting, and house management.
The Highland Park Thespian Society was organized in 1993 by Dr. Marvin Grays. Dr. Grays, who is the Theatre teacher at Highland, received a BA in Theatre from Denver university, an MFA in Acting from the University of Minnesota, worked on a Ph.D. in Theatre at Denver University, and received an Ed.D. in Leadership and Administration from the University of St. Thomas.
The first production of the Thespian Society was Noel Coward's Blythe Spirit. Since then, the Thespian Society has produced on average two plays a year, including such plays as Neil Simon's Odd Couple, Arthur Miller's Playing For Time, Sshakespeare's Macbeth, and Thornton Wilder's The Skin of our Teeth. This wide range of shows has consistently challenged the actor's who have graced the Highland Park stage.
