| | | | To: Highland Park Class of '74 From: Peter Kenefick Date:10/31/08 RE: Minutes from Reunion Meeting #1
35 Years later
True to form our first meeting scheduled for 8:00 PM started around 9ish. We had to wait for Bill "Catman" Catlin to arrive on his shiny new Harley. (Bill works for the government, they don't have recessions!) The rest of us had already parked our "Little Rascal" scooters and were itching to get under way. I led off the meeting with the financial reports. As your financial steward I made the decision to take the small amount of money we had left over from the 30th and invest it. I took half the money and bought a diversified portfolio of stocks. Lehman Brothers, AIG, Wachovia, Freddie Mac, Bear Stearns, Fannie Mae and General Motors, the other half I gave to Tom Petters to invest. Just kidding, I shrewdly deposited our funds into TCF where we were getting 1/2 of 1% until the recent interest rate cuts which leaves us now paying TCF interest instead! The good news is we did get a fondue pot for opening the account with the promise that they will throw in the forks if our balance exceeds $1500.
Our next agenda item centered around what the reunion will cost. We are sensitive to the fact that everyone's 401(K)'s have now become 201(K)'s so we are working to keep the costs down. The decision to allow Dixie's to donate Friday nights appetizers and deeply discount Saturdays food was voted on and approved unanimously. I have been given the task to inform Dixie's of this decision.
Exhausted from our agenda the next 4 hours were dedicated to fun. Deanne led a spirited discussion when she threw out the question "Does anyone remember their natural hair color?" The gals stared blankly while the guys lobbied hard that gray or bald is natural! Kidding aside the women of our class continue to look wonderful and the guys... well... Paul Simon summed it up best with the question "Why am I so soft in the middle when the rest of my life is so hard?" We adjourned at midnight with only one small incident. We had to intervene when Katie wanted to go on stage and sing Karaoke. It wasn't the singing that was the problem, it was that she wanted to sing "Close to You" by Karen Carpenter. Yikes maybe Margarita's really aren't the best choice.
The 30th was a great time and the committees goal is to have the 35th our best ever. Let's have a big turnout. Please help by providing us as many E-mails or addresses of classmates. We need everyone's help to make this the best reunion ever. Everyone is welcome to the planning meetings. The more the merrier!
