Who are we? The Highland Park Senior High School's Chapter of the National Honor Society is part of the national organization, established to recognize academic excellence in students. The purpose of this organization is to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership and to develop character in the students at our school. The NHS is under the scholarship and supervision of the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).

Scholarship means committing to learning. Knowledge will ensure success and can only be acquired through diligence, study, and effort. Candidates are expected to continually expand their knowledge.

Service is the willingness to work for those in need, without compensation or recognition. Candidates should be committed to volunteering their time and abilities to the creation of a better tomorrow.

Leadership means taking the initiatives to train and aid others in obtaining an objective. Leaders must be willing to yield their personal interest for the interests of others. Candidates are expected to be leaders, because all the powers and resources in the world are ineffectual without guidance of a wise leader.

Character
is the force within each individual that distinguishes each person. Character is achieved by the presence of mind to make well informed, respectful decisions in all aspects of life. Candidates should strive to demonstrate qualities such as reliability, honesty, and sincerity.
