Parents - H1N1 Flu information here Attention All 9th grade students and parents! This year
Highland Park Senior High School will be providing all your basic
school supplies! Highland Staff put together a collection of school
supplies that every 9th grader will be using.
What is included?
Each student will receive a 4” binder with 7 color coded notebooks and
folders. This is one folder and notebook for each class, including
advisory. The binder will also hold loose leaf notebook paper, a
pencil pouch with 2 pencils and 1 pen, and the school planner.
Cost?
Highland Park Senior High is able to secure all these needed supplies
for a discounted rate. Highland students will only need to pay $20 for
the entire binder! Highland is paying for 50% of the supplies!
Students
will be able to pick-up their binder in the Main Office beginning
September 1. Questions? Please call the Main Office at 651-293-8940 Cell
Phones, Hats and Hoods Policy 1. Teachers
must be in the hall, interacting with students and moving
them along between classes. 2. Cell
phones and other electronics should not be used in class.
They are to be put away and out of sight. 3.
Cell phones in the halls, courtyards, and after-school are not
permissible anymore due to current circumstances. 4.
Hats and hoods are to be put away or taken off when the
period one starts. We will no
longer allow a student to carry their hats
through the halls. (Check that all students have
assigned lockers. That is where
their hats should be.) 5. Other than scarves
over girls' hair, students may not wear
headgear unless it is part of their religion.
Consequences
Consequences
for infraction of the policy: a. 1st Offense-Write a
referral and keep cc for staff record b. 2nd
Offense-Confiscate if possible for later return c. 3rd
Offense-Send student and referral to administrator. Confiscate the
item or leave to administrator.
Other
Information
Passes may not be issued the first 10
minutes or the last 10 minutes of class time. (There
are too many students in the halls during the beginning of
the hour. Habitually late students will stay in ISS instead
of getting late passes.
Students must leave the building
after school unless part of an adult supervised activity.
If they are participating in sports and want to stay
in the building, they must be studying in the Field House
and carrying their sports pass. Waiting in the Field
House is privilege not a right and students must use
appropriate language.
After School Tutoring
After school tutoring will be offered in the library every
Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday (starting Monday Sept 15) from 2:00
to 3:00 pm. Bus tokens are available for students that need
them. The National Honor Society
is organizing the tutoring.
Excel Award: Congratulations to Kate Siess and Jalani
Traxler. Both students are nominated for an EXCEL Award. Each high
school is allowed to nominate one boy and one girl for the Minnesota
State High School League's award. This award goes to students who are
in their junior year, demonstrate leadership, have sound academic
credit and have a history of volunteer work in their communities. Want to do Debate? See Ms. Jenson in room 228 for information!
Congrats to Kathleen Kramer!! She is the most winning coach
in volleyball history of St. Paul City Conference!! So if you see her,

Highland Park joins the University of
Minnesota’s Prime Time Project Highland Park Senior High
School has been selected to be involved with the University of
Minnesota in a health empowerment program for teenage girls. The
University is working with Highland Park Senior High School, the St
Paul Public Schools, and Health Start Clinics on evaluating Prime
Time, a program that helps teenage girls build strong connections
with family, friends, school and community, meet their academic
goals, make informed decisions about health and wellness, and become
leaders in their community. Parent permission is required for teens
to participate in Prime Time. Rachel Clasen leads the Prime
Time team at Highland Park Senior High. If you’re interested in
learning more about Prime Time, please stop by Room 320 and speak
with Rachel. Or give Rachel a call at 651-293-8940 ext 320. Funds for
this project are provided by the National Institutes of Health to the
University of Minnesota’s School of Nursing.
I is
HMONG A program at HPSH where the goal is to EMBRACE the
HMONG culture and to help understand the history or the beliefs the
Hmong culture have had. This year in "I is HMONG"
please join us in portable C during advisory on Weds and Fri.
We have passes available - join us!
Apprenticeship Program Highland Park Senior High was
chosen as 1 of only 3 St. Paul area schools to participate in an
Apprenticeship Program with the St. Paul Police Department and
Bricklayers and Allied Craft workers. The vision of this pilot
program is to introduce BAC Trade opportunities to high
school students. Participants for this program will be
chosen through an interview process with the SPPDBAC
board.
Qualifications for the interview process for this
program are: -seniors enrolled at HPSH -strong interest in a
career with the BAC -history of good school attendance
Rick
Martagon, training director from apprenticeship program, will be
at Highland on Tuesday, September 9 at 9:20 to talk with juniors
and seniors about this program. If you have questions
